You’ve heard about the Yahoo! hacks and millions of compromised user passwords and data, but have you heard about the follow-on Yahoo! technical support scam?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issued an alert today for consumers to be on the lookout for calls claiming to be from Yahoo! technical service employees. The FTC notes that Yahoo! will never call you – nor should you ever call them via a number found on the Internet â€“ to provide service.

Yahoo! customer support is always free. Anyone claiming to offer support for a fee is clearly attempting to scam you.

If you are one of the many who had their passwords and other data stolen by hackers and require help from Yahoo! in resetting it, you will not be charged a fee and no one will request remote access to your computer.

If you’ve already fallen victim to the scam and been charged a fee, contact your financial institution to report the charge.
