The National Security Agency just joined Microsoft in warning about a newfound vulnerability nicknamed BlueKeep affecting Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2008.
This clearly illustrates why you need to upgrade before Microsoft ends support for Windows 7* and Server 2008 in January.

Microsoft will end support for SQL Server 2008 in July — less than two months from today.
Windows 7 and Server 2008 will suffer the same fate in January 2020.

On July 9, 2019, Microsoft will officially retire their SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2 operating systems. Failure to migrate places your data at greater risk of loss with no support from Microsoft.
