Yesterday, the World Health Organization formally characterized COVID-19 as a pandemic. In light of this, there is an unprecedented move by employers to reduce the spread of the virus by turning to remote options for their employees.
Over the past several days, we have received numerous requests to upgrade, bolster or even implement from scratch remote accessibility. In many of these cases, the environments include aged hardware and outdated software and operating systems. Given other recent events — such as increased client security requirements, multiple Microsoft End-of-Life deadlines and the general desire to maintain technology — our active project list is substantial and resources well-utilized.
Next to our People, our Clients are the most important aspect of our business. We have selectively reduced our engineers' on-site activities in an abundance of caution for our employees. We are developing a short-term solution for our Clients who need to provide remote access for employees but have yet to implement our Innovative Cloud Solution. This environment will provide limited functionality, including the ability to communicate (send and receive email) and produce documents (via the Office 365 Suite and access to document management systems). The solution is based on the same platform as our full cloud-based environment, but can be more simply deployed within a few days.
Varying with each environment, employers will need to consider plans for remote time entry or selective access to the firm’s full application suite. We are finalizing our solution and internal processes over the next 24–48 hours. We anticipate expeditious turnaround on quotations and implementation schedules. To prepare, please ensure employees who intend to work remotely have the means to do so: high-speed Internet access, the necessary equipment, privacy, etc.
